What is Restylane SubQ?

Restylane SubQ is a hyaluronic acid filler made by Restylane. Restylane has now been used in over 10 million treatments worldwide and has a clinical record second to none.

Hyaluronic acid is derived from a sugar and is found naturally in the deeper layers of our skin it has been used in medical treatments in different guises for many years.

SubQ is treated hyaluronic acid that has formed a thicker formulation and can be used to mimic the fat layer in the face binding to the body’s own collagen. As a natural substance it slowly gets broken down after 9-12 months.

How uncomfortable is the procedure?

The procedure is rendered effectively painless by using local anaesthetic. Not dissimilar to local anaesthetic injections at a dentist, one injection on each side numbs the cheek area to be treated. Your Medicetics Doctor will then use the SubQ to sculpt the area that needs to be rejuvenated or enhanced in a natural way.

How quickly will I see the effects and what is the recovery time?

You will see results immediately although there may be a small amount of swelling.

The recovery time is quick however it may take 3-4 hours for the local anaesthetic to wear off. As the procedure involves injecting Restylane SubQ into the deeper cheek layers it is possible to get a small amount of swelling however most of this will have settled after 24 hours.

If you have any discomfort it is sensible to take some simple painkillers like paracetamol. Try to avoid aspirin or neurofen/ ibuprofen as this can worsen brusing. It is nearly always possible to return to work the next day.

The effect can be seen immediately however it is not uncommon to get swelling on one side more than the other which can seem to cause an uneven effect. After 4-5 days you will be able to see the full result.

Is it safe?

The risks with a treatment like Restylane SubQ are minimal. It is a non-animal derived product and therefore is extremely unlikely to cause any allergic reaction (less than 1:2000), any reaction is however easily dealt with as long as you are being treated by a Doctor in a medical clinic such as Medicetics. Restylane SubQ is a temporary filler, lasting approximately 9-12 months. It is also possible to reverse the effects by injecting an agent that breaks down hyaluronic acid called hyaluronidase.
