Hand rejuvenation
Non surgical management of hands
Hands, face, and in women, décolletage are the areas that are constantly exposed to the environment and hence age at a faster rate- a process called photo-ageing.
Ageing factors in hands:
Hand volume restoration
1. Loss of volume in hands.Hands lose volume as we age, the subcutaneous layers of fat thin and we lose about 7% of skin thickness per decade. This allows veins, bones and tendons in the hands to become more prominent or “skeletonised”.
This loss of volume can be reversed with hyaluronic acid fillers such as juvederm or juvederm hydrate. Volume restoration in the hands is a technically intricate process performed using juvederm. At Medicetics we used a no needle technique to minimise bruising. The process takes 45-60 minutes per treatment to restore this volume; 80% of the improvement is seen immediately with the final result withinn a few days.*
Hand restoration volume is performed with minimal pain, minimal bruising and no recovery time needed.
Removal of age spots on hands
2. Pigmentation changes in the hands:Removal of sunspots, liver spots or age spots is the removal of pigmentation. These dark spots on the hand are due to sun exposure causing PPD (permanent pigment darkening) in the dermal layers. We treat them according to the depth of the pigmentation with:
a. IPL intense pulsed light targets the sunspots with little or no downtime
b. Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the spots off
c. Depigmentation creams- prescription creams help reduce and prevent reformation of pigmentation.
General Skin Changes
3. Skin changes:a. Skin peels rejuvenate the overall texture of the skin in the hands.
b. Skin peels tighten the laxity of the skin
c. Skin peels help to remove pigmentation and superficial skin lesions.
For a full rejuvenation programme we assess the hands and combine the appropriate treatments.
For hand rejuvenation best results, a combination approach is often recommended, this plan may be staged over a number of months. Treatment of sunspots on the hands may require multiple treatments (a course of 3 IPL photo- treatments is sometimes needed.)
Hand rejuvenation is performed by Doctors at our clinic in Connaught Street.
*This depends on the degree of swelling or whether there is any bruising.
