Laser Skin Rejuvenation

DON’T PUT UP WITH PAIN We care about our patients comfort which is why we go to extra lengths to ensure comfort. Some people find laser skin treatments uncomfortable so we use a number of different methods to reduce this including special prescription only anaesthetic cream, cooling packs and cooling rollers. With these extra methods we have rendered this a virtually painless procedure.

The fotofacial using IPL (Intense Pulse light) helps reverse the damage done by the London environment and the pace of modern day living. Exposure to airborne pollutants and sun radiation combine with the natural aging process to create fine lines, wrinkles, and changes in texture and colour of our skin.

How does it work?

In our London skincare clinics we use Palomar lasers. Our Doctors use specialised handpieces which filter light from different parts of the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is ideal for different treatments, such as sunspot removal and vessel clearance.

The Photofacial laser will emit a pulse of light that is delivered to the skin using a specially designed cool handpiece. The light is absorbed by the pigment in sunspots and the blood in visible vessels, and converted to heat. The heat dissolves the cells that create the pigment and shrinks the vessels

Sunspots/ Sun damage: The sunspots will darken after treatment and be naturally shed form the skin within 1-2 weeks.

Rosacea: Skin tone will be more normal, with less pronounced redness within a week after treatment.

Spider veins: Vessels normally disappear right after treatment or they may appear darker and then fully or partially fade within 10-14 days.

For optimal results several treatments will be typically required to achieve complete clearance of sunspots, rosacea and vessels.

Definitions

Photorejuvenation (the Fotofacial) is the latest treatment for the reduction of facial redness, face veins, pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles. It is excellent for treating sunspots/ sun damage, rosacea, spider veins and liver spots. It is performed using the latest technological advanced lasers.

Skin rejuvenation is the collective term for non-surgical treatments that our Doctors at Medicetics use in our London clinics to either maintain or improve the quality of your skin.

Which areas are treated?

Although in the past the majority of skin rejuvenation has been carried out on the face our Doctors have also extended the range of treatments including treatment of stretch marks, hands, legs, chest and decolletage.

How does it work?

Developed by a US dermatologist, the non-invasive treatment involves applying pulses of intense pulsed light on the skin. At our London clinics we can offer laser treatments to not only get rid of areas of pigmentation on the face but we also use these gentle treatments to remove areas of pigmentation on the hands, the decolletage and chest, back and legs.

How soon does it work?

When you come to our clinic you will one of the Medicetics team Doctors who will analyse your skin and decide on a treatment plan. A typical treatment plan would consist of a series of three to five treatments performed at three to four weekly intervals; patients see a visible improvement in the appearance and texture of the skin from the very first treatment. Discomfort during the treatment, which takes about 20 minutes, is minimal and the skin will look smoother even after the very first session. There is minimal recovery time required.

What can be treated?

Patients can expect to be rid of brown spots and visible red capillaries as well as see a dramatic reduction in other skin pigmentation and fine lines.

This is in fact the first treatment ever available for the effective treatment of flushing or facial and neck redness. Unlike other facial rejuvenation treatments such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing, there is little discomfort and no disruption to normal activities. For people wishing to have smoother, healthier and younger-appearing skin, this is a wonderful, long-lasting treatment.

Is it uncomfortable?

Although most people do not find any discomfort. If we need to treat more severe areas we can offer the use of a range of local anaesthetics some of which come in the form of a cream to make the process a practically painless procedure. This is one of the benefits of having your treatment at a proper medical skin clinic as all local anaesthetics are prescription only medications.

What about facial redness? Rosacea and Thread Veins.

Some facial redness is caused by multiple thread veins however if it is more dense than this you may have a condition called Rosacea. Rosacea is a chronic vascular and skin disorder that causes redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead. Symptoms usually come and go and are associated with certain triggers which can be anything from sun exposure, stress, hot weather, eating spicy foods, alcohol or just moving from one temperature to another. Triggers vary enormously from sufferer to sufferer. Results from traditional topical treatments are limited.

The fotofacial is the first treatment in the UK to give consistently good results over the last 5 years.

How is the treatment performed?

Fotofacials are performed using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). This non-laser medical device delivers a series of pulses of light to the skin all over the area involved. Specific settings are selected for each treatment and a series of up to five treatments are performed at 3 to 4 week intervals. At Medicetics a doctor performs all Fotofacials.

What results can I expect?

You can expect to see a gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing and dilated capillaries. People with visible ageing from the sun can expect to see their skin become smoother with a decrease in fine wrinkles, reduction in pore size and fading of sun spots. Many people with rosacea see an improvement in breakouts and are able to decrease or discontinue their medication. Those with flushing and blushing should see that it takes more to make them flushed and even when they do flush the redness is less severe and settles much quicker than before. Usually patients also get rid of the discomfort or sensation that they feel in the cheeks as they flushing.

What are treatments like?

Each treatment takes about 20 minutes. A mild amount of discomfort can be expected during treatment but this quickly subsides. Immediately following a treatment, the skin may appear red and flushed and tiny capillaries and brown spots may appear darker. All of these changes gradually fade over a period of hours to a few days.

How soon will I see results?

After your first treatment your skin will feel smoother and will have a more even tone. These improvements are gradual and will be more visible after each treatment. Between three to five treatments are performed for optimal results. Some patients will benefit from additional treatment.

What should I expect after treatment?

Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some very minor swelling. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs.
