Dermaroller

Dermaroller for acne scars, fines lines and pigmentation

The dermaroller treatment for acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles and pigmentation is an innovative way of treating acne scarring without inconvenient downtime. The best acne scar treatments such as the dermaroller, work to break down abnormal scarring and encourage the body to gently replace it with a smoother skin without initiating a scar response. The medical micro needling of the dermaroller is an excellent way of obtaining these results.

  • 1. What is a dermaroller?

A dermaroller is a device with hundreds of small medical grade microneedles arranged around a medical roller device. As the dermaroller is passed across the skin it causes small micro punctures in the skin surface.

This controlled damage to the skin surface is not deep enough to elicit a scarring response however it will cause the body to have a milder healing response. The nearby tissue is broken down and new elastin and collagen are formed. This way scarring, lines, wrinkles and pigmentation are all gently removed, being replace over time with new scar free skin.

    2. What will happen during the treatment?

Before any treatment at Medicetics you will have a full consultation with one of our Doctors to assess your skin and discuss possible treatment plans.

If your skin is suitable for treatment, we will put strong anaesthetic on your skin for 30 minutes before treatment; this numbs the skin.

The treatment is relatively pain free and consists of the roller being applied to the area of skin to be treated. This means thousands of tiny micro punctures are formed in the skin, this stimulates a controlled repair.

The acne scarring, or area being treated, may look red, similar to moderate sunburn. This will settle within a few hours and the skin will look normal by the next day.

    3. How long does the treatment take?

The dermaroller treatment takes 20-30 minutes depending on the area that is being treated. If the dermarolling is on the face alone it usually takes about 20 minutes. The neck takes approximately a further ten minutes. Dermaroller for the hand and decolletage take 10 to 15 minutes for each area.

    4. How quickly will I notice an effect?

With dermarolling as we are breaking down the scar tissue and allowing the body to repair the skin, results take 4-8 weeks. For acne scarring we recommend three dermaroller treatments 6 weeks apart.

    5. How long will the dermaroller treatment last?

The results from a dermaroller treatment are permanent. As it is a repair of the skin it does not revert after a given time period. Dermaroller for fine lines and wrinkles will improve the skin, however it will not stop skin ageing and new lines forming.

    6. What are the possible side effects of a dermaroller treatment?

Side effects of dermaroller are minimal. After the treatment the skin appears red. In a very small percentage of people it can take 48 hours for the redness to fully settle. During this period camoflauge or foundation can be used. There can be a variation in results. Some patients get a 75% improvement whereas others only get a 50% improvement depending on the depth and severity of acne scars.

    7. Post-treatment care with demaroller

After your dermaroller treatment your practitioner will put on a barrier repair cream to encourage the repair of the skin. You will also be given a sunscreen to wear between treatments. This helps protect the skin and provide optimum conditions for the skin to repair itself.
