What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating, a condition that affects more people than you might think. It commonly affects the underarms but can afflict various parts of the body, such as the bottoms of the feet and the palms of the hands.
The direct cause of such a condition is unknown and widely discussed, with some researchers putting it down to genetics, and others suggesting that there are certain triggers, such as heat and emotions. Some people think that anxiety has a part to play, but it is not the root cause of hyperhidrosis. With that being said, it can be an extremely difficult condition to live with, causing social anxiety and embarrassment for many people.
Treating hyperhidrosis with botulinum toxin
Over-the-counter products tend to mask the problem of excessive sweating rather than fix it, as products like deodorant and antiperspirant don’t tackle the cause of excessive sweating. But did you know that Botox injections can be used to treat hyperhidrosis, as well as reduce the appearance of wrinkles?
There is a 90-100% reduction in underarm sweating after just one 30-minute treatment session, with results lasting up to 10 months. It is the active ingredient in Botox that works to block overactive signaling from the brain to the sweat glands, and consequently reduces sweat production. This is a huge confidence boost for patients who no longer have to worry about awkward and embarrassing excessive sweating.
Our patients have told us how they had to find alternative ways to deal with hyperhidrosis throughout their life, from predominantly wearing black to always carrying an extra top and deodorant. No one should have to live with restrictions like these, but after discovering our treatment at Medicetics, a noticeable “100% improvement” means they don’t have to. They call the treatment a “game-changer” and only wish they’d sought the treatment sooner, praising our attentive and thoughtful approach to treatment. “I can’t recommend Medicetics highly enough and couldn’t have felt in safer hands.” To read more, please visit our testimonials page.
