The Medicetics Man
Is it acceptable for men to have Botox and other cosmetic treatments? The answer is increasingly ‘yes’. With celebrities like Gordon Ramsay, who can hardly be accused of not being manly, using Botox along with fillers for the lines in his forehead, we’re witnessing a sea change in attitude. At Medicetics we’re even seeing many more men whose wives actively encourage them to come in.
Statistics show that 10% of patients having Botox are men and it’s not just ‘Bro-tox’ (as the media have dubbed it) that’s attracting a male audience. As we’ve seen at Medicetics, where over 25% of our clients are men, the boom in male cosmetic treatments shows no signs of slowing and is being fuelled, in part, by a handful of top male surgeons, like Medicetics’ Dr Geoff Mullan, who was profiled in a recent Saturday Times piece on male cosmetic surgery.
Lasers are popular with our male patients, particularly the powerful Excel V vascular laser, which yields dramatic results, reducing facial redness on the nose and cheeks. “Though there are other causes, one of the causes of these broken capillaries is alcohol and no one wants to be thought of like that,” says Dr Mullan.
As the Times feature noted, the point for for our male patients is not to look ten years younger, but to soften lines that are often wrongly misinterpreted as signs of anger, tiredness or stress. At Medicetics we see men from all professions, CEOs, bankers, lawyers, the creative industries and even politicians. They need the work to be subtle, not frozen or obvious. “That’s very important to our clients,” says Dr Mullan, who has “sprinkles” of Botox on his own forehead.
Most of the men who come to us are already looking after their bodies at the gym and by doing sports like triathlons. Having worked hard to reduce body fat and build muscle they are turning to treatments like Coolsculpting, an effective, non-surgical alternative to liposuction, to remove the last pockets of stubborn fat, to expose the muscle underneath.
Also known as fat freezing, this treatment involves a process known as cryolipolysis whereby fat is drawn into a vacuum before being exposed to low temperatures in order to destroy the fat cells. They are then disposed of naturally within the body.
Many of our male patients opt for Dermal Filers to offset the gaunt face that is often a side-effect of achieving a lean, gym-honed body after your thirties. Dermal fillers provide instant volume for a more youthful appearance. They can also smooth away wrinkles and fine lines.
Laser Hair Removal
One of the most common problems for men is unwanted body hair. Our advanced Ellman Cheveux II Diode Laser delivers energy pulses to disrupt the regrowth of hair in areas such as the back, chest and arms. This is a long-term, cost-effective alternative to time-consuming home hair removal methods, such as waxing and shaving.
